„Einen schönen Urlaub! Bis einer krank wird und den Durchfall bekommt!“ So hat mich eine junge Mutter aus Bonn in unsere Elternzeitreise verabschiedet. Etwas Bammel hatten wir schon, dass unsere Kinder in Thailand erkranken könnten. Wir machten alle empfohlene Impfungen und nahmen eine Reiseapotheke mit.
Die ersten 3,5 Wochen waren perfekt. Keiner hatte Durchfall, Fieber, nicht mal Schnupfen. Siehe da, alle Sorgen waren umsonst, dachte ich mir. Doch ich freute mich zu früh.
Kind krank in Thailand: was nun?
Vier Tage vor dem geplanten Rückflug bekam unser Baby morgens eine etwas erhöhte Temperatur. An dem Tag wollten wir einen Ausflug zum Nationalpark Don Inthanon machen und hatten dafür einen Fahrer gebucht. Auf dem Weg dorthin fuhren wir in das nahe gelegene „Bangkok Hospital“, ließen das Baby von der Ärztin abhören. Alles war in Ordnung, wir bekamen auf alle Fälle Paracetamol mit und durften in die Berge fahren. Wir aßen in einem Flussrestaurant, besuchten die königlichen Pagoden, der malerische Wasserfall bespritzte uns mit kühlem Wasser. Am Nachmittag fühlte sich unser Baby wieder warm an. Der Thermometer zeigte 39 Grad. Wir gaben ihm Paracetamol, er schlief ein.
In der Nacht stieg seine Temperatur wieder an. Wir gaben ihm nochmal Paracetamol. Unser von zuhause mitgebrachtes Ibuprofen sollten wir ihm nicht geben – im Falle des Denguefiebers wäre das schädlich. Am frühen Morgen fuhren wir zum zweiten Mal in die Klinik. Diesmal war eine andere Ärztin da, die ebenso Englisch sprach. Sie hörte das Baby ab, ließ ein Röntgenbild von der Lunge machen und Blut abnehmen. Die Lunge war frei. Die Proben auf Denguefieber und Norovirus waren negativ. Die Ärztin meinte, es sei wohl eine Viruserkrankung und schickte uns nach Hause.
Kind krank in Thailand: Aufenthalt im Krankenhaus
In der folgenden Nacht stieg seine Körpertemperatur auf über 40 Grad. Das Baby erbrach, als wir ihm Ibuprofen gaben. Der Fieber ging nicht weg. Dazu kam der Durchfall. Um zwei Uhr nachts standen wir mit dem zitterndem Baby im Bad im Hotel und wussten nicht weiter. Noch einmal Fiebersaft geben? Wieder in die Klinik fahren? Wie konnten wir uns nur in so eine Situation hineinbringen? Mir ist eingefallen, dass die Notfallpraxis in Bonn noch offen war (in Deutschland war es 21 Uhr). Die Mitarbeiterin dort meinte, wir sollen dem Baby abwechselnd Paracetamol und Ibuprofen geben. Am Telefon konnte sie uns jedoch nicht wirklich helfen.
Am nächsten Tag waren wir also zum dritten Mal im Hospital. Als Erstes wurde unser Baby mit den lauwarmen Tüchern abgetupft, die Temperatur ging um 1 Grad herunter. Die Ärztin meinte, es wäre wahrscheinlich doch eine bakterielle Infektion. Sie verordnete dem Baby Antibiotika und Kochsalzlösung gegen die Dehydrierung. Am nächsten Tag stand das thailändische Neujahrsfest an. Wir wollten es in Chiang Mai verbringen, weil es dort drei Tage lang traditionell gefeiert wird. Das sollte die Krönung unserer Reise werden. Stattdessen lag unser Baby am Tropf, musste alle paar Stunden den Fiebersaft und eine frische Windel bekommen. Er tat mir leid und ich machte mir als Mutter Vorwürfe.
Im privaten Krankenhaus fühlten wir uns jedoch sehr gut aufgehoben. So eine tolle medizinische Versorgung hatte ich in Deutschland noch nicht. (Das liegt vielleicht daran, dass ich nicht privat versichert bin).
Kind krank in Thailand: unser Fazit
Am zweiten Tag nach der ersten Antibiotikagabe war der Fieber endlich weg. Die Ärztin ließ uns mit dem Taxi zum Flughafen fahren, damit wir unseren Flug nach Bangkok nehmen konnten. Das Baby hatte auch während des Fluges Durchfall. Ich musste an die Wörter der Frau aus Bonn denken…
In Deutschland kam unser Baby gesund an. Vom Bangkok Hospital bekamen wir eine Email mit dem Ergebnis der Stuhlprobe: Keine Bakterien wurden gefunden. „Wahrscheinlich war das doch nur ein Virus“, meinte unser Kinderarzt in Bonn. Seine Kollegin in Chiang Mai hätte jedoch richtig gehandelt.
Der Krankenhausaufenthalt in Thailand kostete etwa 1000 Euro. Zum Glück übernahm die Auslandskrankenversicherung die Kosten. Das Leiden des Kindes, unsere Sorgen, die schlaflosen Nächte konnte uns natürlich keiner abnehmen. Sollten wir lieber auf die Fernreise verzichten? Rückblickend betrachtet: Nein. Auch zuhause hätte unser Baby erkranken können. Diese Erfahrung war nicht schön, aber sie hat unsere Familie stärker gemacht und noch mehr zusammengeschweißt.
