Reisen mit Kindern ist ganz schön schrecklich. Wenn das Baby kurz vor dem Flugstart in die Hose macht. Wenn das Kleinkind beim verspäteten Abflug nörgelt. Entspannt die Zeitung lesen oder einen Film auf dem Tablett schauen? Vergiss es! Heute ist die Hochkonzentration angesagt. Im Unterschied zu früher höre ich den Flugbegleiterinnen genau zu, während sie die Sicherheitsbestimmungen runterplappern. Die Sauerstoffmaske erst sich selbst aufsetzen, dann den Kindern. Hm… Welchem von den beiden zuerst? Oder lieber dem Ehemann, damit er mithelfen kann?
Wenn zwei Erwachsene mit zwei Kindern reisen, geht das noch einigermaßen. Jeder hat ein Kind zu bespaßen. Aber wie machen es die Paare, die mehr als zwei Kinder haben? Meine Cousine wollte mal mit ihren zwei Schultöchtern und den Babyzwillingen in die Nachbarstadt. „Wir haben es bis zur Stadtausfahrt geschafft und haben dann umgedreht, weil wir sonst durchgedreht wären!“ erzählt sie. Andere packen ihre sechs Paar Schuhe und vier Kinder und machen eine Weltreise. Hängt das von den Launen der Kinder ab? Oder von der Einstellung der Eltern?
Unsere Erfahrung zeigt: Eine 30-minütige Autofahrt mit Baby kann anstrengender sein als eine achtstündige Taxi-Flugzeug-Zug-Bus-Reise. Eine Rolltreppenfahrt am Flughafen wird mit einem Vierjährigen zum Abenteuer. Eine Fahrt mit dem weißrussischen Nachtzug sowieso. Wie konnte man früher das so prosaisch sehen? Erst durch die Kinder habe ich richtig gespürt, wie lecker der von der Schaffnerin mitgebrachte Tee schmeckt oder wie spannend es sein kann, den Wald und die Dörfer vom Fenster aus zu beobachten.
Ist Reisen mit Kindern also schön schrecklich oder schrecklich schön? Da bin ich mir noch nicht ganz sicher… Auf jeden Fall eins: anders – und bereichernd.
