Meer, Mangos, Hängematten… Pool, Palmen, Paddeln… Krebse, Kokosnüsse, Koralle…  Es fällt mir schwer, unseren dreiwöchigen Urlaub auf den Inseln im Golf von Thailand in nur drei Worten zusammenzufassen. Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao – jede Insel hat ihre eigene Besonderheit, aber alle drei eignen sich bestens für den Urlaub mit den Kindern.

Unsere erste Station im Golf von Thailand war die größte Insel Koh Samui. Nach zwei schlaflosen Nächten davor (erst der 12-stündige Nachtflug, dann Jetlag in Bangkok) hatten wir etwas Entspannung nötig. Koh Samui machte unsere Akklimatisierung in Thailand sehr angenehm. Nach der Ankunft schliefen das Baby und ich direkt in einer Hängematte am bildhübschen Strand ein. Währenddessen plantschten mein Mann und unser vierjähriger Sohn im Pool mit dem Blick aufs Meer. Am nächsten Tag wurden die Kokosnüsse an unserem Strand geerntet. Sie wurden mit einem langen Bambusstock von den Palmen gekickt. Was für ein Spektakel! So leckeres Kokoswasser habe ich noch nie getrunken.

Richtig erfrischend war es allerdings weder im Meer noch im Pool… sondern im Wasserfall Na Muang.  Den Ausflug dorthin kombinierten wir mit dem Besuch im örtlichen Supermarkt. Nur dort kann man nämlich Babybrei kaufen. „Big C“ statt Big Buddha also. Für die bekannteste Sehenswürdigkeit der Insel reichte die Zeit leider nicht. Dafür weiß ich jetzt, dass es in Thailand unterschiedliche Windeln für Jungs und Mädchen sowie Gemüse-Quetschies ohne Zucker gibt. Reisen mit Kindern ist eben anders.

Thailand mit Kindern: Inseln auf der KarteNach drei Tagen auf Koh Samui gingen wir mit der Fähre zur kleineren Insel Koh Tao, die als Taucherparadies bekannt ist. Mein Mann und ich wechselten uns bei den Tauchgängen und der Kinderbetreuung ab. (Schwer zu sagen, was davon mehr Abenteuer bereitet…)

Tauchen ist wie Kinder gebären: sehr anstrengend, aber lohnt sich.  Hauptsache: Ruhe bewahren und Atmen nicht vergessen! Wenn man auf die Anweisungen einer erfahrenen Hebamme Tauchlehrerin hört, klappt alles wunderbar.

Zum ersten Mal war ich 2008 in Ägypten tauchen. Zum zweiten Mal tauchte ich 2016 auf Fuerteventura. Ich habe keinen Tauchschein, beide Male war ich mit Begleitung unter Wasser. In Hurghada haute die bunte Unterwasserwelt mich um. Der Theorie-Teil war aber mit einem kurzen Video verbesserungswürdig. Auf Fuerteventura war die deutschsprachige Einführung top, aber die Meeresfauna war relativ arm und das Wasser sehr kalt. Mein dritter Tauchgang auf Koh Tao war nun eine gelungene Mischung aus beidem:  super Betreuung und tolle Unterwasserwelt. Meine schönste Begegnung war die mit einem Rotbrust-Prachtlippfisch. Er klimperte mit den orangenen Wimpern und ich hatte das Gefühl, dass er sich über unser Kennenlernen nicht weniger als ich freute.

Beim Schnorcheln auf Koh Tao

Schnorcheln ist wie eine Geburt mit PDA. Man spürt keinen Druck, man kriegt alles mit und genießt es einfach. Dafür taucht man aber nicht so tief ein. Das Highlight beim Schnorcheln war die Begegnung mit einer riesigen Schildkröte. Sie bewegte sich langsam wie eine Königin, während die Fische-Lakaien sie von allein reinigten. Für unseren vierjährigen Sohn war das Paddeln zum nächsten Felsen das größte Erlebnis. Von den Zwicke-Zwacke-Krebsen, die da wohnen, sprach er noch Tage später. Thailand mit Kindern klappt super: Auch auf der Abenteuer-Insel Tao findet jeder seinen Spaß.

Koh Samui war chillig, Koh Tao war abenteuerreich, doch am besten war Koh Phangan. Dort verbrachten wir unsere schönsten Urlaubstage mit alten und neuen Freunden. Die Strände auf der Insel sind sehr unterschiedlich, aber alle sind schön. (Meine persönliche Top-Liste der familienfreundlichsten Strände findet ihr hier). Unser Favorit war der Flaschenstrand im Norden der Insel. Aus einem Tagesausflug zum Bottle Beach ist ein mehrtägiger Aufenthalt geworden. Wie gut, dass wir nicht viel im Voraus organisiert haben. Auf Phangan lohnt es sich, einfach hinzufahren und sich einen Bungalow vor Ort zu mieten. Im Durchschnitt zahlten wir für eine Unterkunft ca. 45 Euro. Mal mit, mal ohne Frühstück; die Klimaanlage war immer dabei. Das war uns bei der Hitze mit den Kindern wichtig.

Erstaunlich, wie heimisch und entspannt wir uns auf dem abgelegenen, exotischen Strand gleich fühlten. Waren es die Mitarbeiter im Restaurant, die wie gute alte Freunde mit den Kindern am Strand spielten? Die Familien in benachbarten Bungalows, die auf der gleichen Wellenlänge lagen?  Der Blick auf den menschenleeren Strand, auf dem keiner morgens den besten Platz mit seinem Handtuch reservieren wollte?
