Der Zug von Bonn nach Berlin ist voll. Zum Glück habe ich einen Platz im Kleinkinderabteil reserviert. Das Abteil ist mit vier Familien und drei Kinderwagen voll. „Would you like to eat an apple?” fragt Papa seinen Sohn auf dem vorderen Sitz. “Warte, ich gebe dir ein Tuch!“, sagt die Mama des Kleinen.
Daneben sitzt eine Mutter mit On-Ear-Kopfhörern und großer Brille. Ihr Baby schläft im Kinderwagen. Sie wendet sich ihren Sitznachbarn zu: „Sorry, ich habe zufällig mitbekommen, dass Sie Ihr Kind zweisprachig erziehen. Wie ist da Ihre Erfahrung?“ Die Eltern erzählen enthusiastisch, dass jeder von ihnen jeweils in der anderen Sprache mit dem zweijährigen Sohn spricht, und dass er beides gut versteht. Die Mutter mit Kopfhörern ist begeistert. Sie möchte das auch so machen, sie habe Sprachen studiert und sei sich noch nicht sicher, ob sie ihrer Tochter Englisch, Spanisch oder Französisch beibringen soll. „Englisch wird sie sowieso lernen, lieber was anderes“, finden ihre Sitznachbarn. Für alle drei Erwachsene ist Deutsch ihre Muttersprache.
Mein Baby weint. Ich nehme es auf den Arm und rede mit ihm auf Russisch. „In welcher Sprache sprechen Sie mit dem Baby? Klingt für mich wie Finnisch“, fragt mein Sitznachbar. Das ist Russisch, sage ich. „Ist ja auch asiatisch“, sagt seine Frau und lächelt. Was bin ich froh, dass ich im weltoffenen und toleranten Deutschland lebe! Zumindest hatte ich noch nie Ablehnung gespürt, wenn ich mit meinem Kind nicht Deutsch gesprochen habe.
Unsere Muttersprache ist Russisch (wie es mit dem Belarussischen steht, habe ich hier beschrieben). Wir erziehen unsere Kinder zweisprachig. Nicht weil wir sie auf eine großartige Karriere in der globalisierten Welt vorbereiten, sondern weil es für uns am einfachsten ist. Ich kann gut genug Deutsch, aber meine Gefühle ausdrücken oder fluchen kann ich am besten auf Russisch. Und wie sollten unsere Jungs sonst mit ihren Großeltern und zahlreichen Cousins in Belarus kommunizieren?
Kind zweisprachig erziehen: pro und contra
Ich habe jedoch russischsprachige Eltern in Deutschland getroffen, die ihr Kind nur auf Deutsch ansprechen, weil Russisch „unschön“ sei. Eine andere Landsfrau wollte ihrem Kind „die Sprache des Aggressors“ nach der Krim-Annexion nicht beibringen und redete mit ihm Englisch. Manche haben strenge Regeln wie „ein Elternteil – eine Sprache“ oder „zuhause Russisch – in der Öffentlichkeit Deutsch“. Bei uns sind die Übergänge fließend. Beim Abholen in der Kita begrüßt mich mein vierjähriger Sohn auf Deutsch. Die Matschhose ist wieder nass und zum Mittagessen gab es Kaiserschmarrn, erzählt er.
Auf dem Weg nach Hause stöbere ich im Kopf nach der adäquaten Übersetzung für Matschhose und Kaiserschmarrn. Dann stelle ich ihm die Frage, die fast so gemein wie Wen-magst-du-lieber-Papa-oder-Mama-Frage ist: „Welche Sprache sprichst du lieber?“ „Pa-memezki“, sagt er. „Weil meine Freunde es sprechen.“ Gut, das akzeptiere ich, aber unsere Familiensprache bleibt Russisch, okay? Er nickt. Ich hoffe, irgendwann sagt er uns dafür „Danke“. Oder besser noch „Spasibo“.
